What you need to know before buying antique clocks online, in order to prevent making the most common mistakes that many do.
Collecting Antiques is a passion many know too well, many of these antique these collections are surprisingly valuable and extremely interesting and valuable.
The majority of clocks that were made from the 15th to the middle of the 17th century are now mostly in museums and a small percentage in different individuals’ private collection. Most people will never set eyes on these timekeepers nor will be able to recognize them.
Those antique clocks that were made during the 1800’s through the early 1900’s are more in number since the periods mentioned were the time when clocks and watches were produced in mass quantities.
Antique clocks from the mid 1600s still exist. Some of these are worth well over $70,000. Some extremely rare models are worth over $100,000. A wise consumer, before spending this type of money, would have any prospective clock appraised before purchase.
Everyone thinking of investing in antique items will be surprised at all the things that they first need to know, before you go out and buy antique items. This is because, as with any other purchase, there are a number of things that you need to research so that you can avoid making a mistake in your purchases. Today this has become very true for antiques because of the proliferation of antique reproductions, which can make finding authentic antique items very confusing. One example that you should know with regard to antique items is the language that antique sellers and antique enthusiast use to describe items. This is because knowing the language they speak can greatly help you with your decisions.
An antique clock is unusual in the world of antiques in that it is a working piece of art, or should be in order to get the most enjoyment and value. I would definitely think twice about attempting to buy a clock that is not working and expect that it will be easy to get it up and running. It may be neither easy nor maybe even impossible. Often it takes a skilled clock maker to repair a clock and it is usually not cheap. That being said, perhaps you may get a better deal on a non-working clock if you know someone to repair it or can do it yourself.
The antique clock is primarily a timepiece after all. I have had the pleasure to have owned some and been in homes that had them and I can personally attest to the soothing feeling mentioned previously that comes from the hour on the hour ( or even half hour) chime or bell in the middle of the night. To me it is somewhat like a fog horn, lonesome and soothing at the same time.
These timeless treasures are available at flea markets, estate sales, local auctions, and through newspaper ads. Antique clocks can also sometimes be found at online auction sites. To be certain of a clock’s authenticity, you should only buy from a trusted and reputable seller. Read any listing carefully to ensure that the product you are buying is truly an antique. In addition to online auctions, established auction houses hold auctions for antique grandfather clocks, although these may happen only twice a year.

In the last post, we looked at the impact the Internet has had on all of our lives. The convenience it has afforded us has allowed us to do everything from shop to work online and most of us have become so dependent on its conveniences that we are often hard pressed to find another option.
However, being the age that I am, I reverted to past behavior when I found myself in need of a wall clock for my family room. Wanting something really special to hang above my fireplace, I went in search of a bricks and mortar location; as I couldn’t imagine finding something of high enough quality online. But when I pulled the phone directory out and began to leaf through it, my teenage daughter stopped me in my tracks with “Are you kidding me mom?”
She logged on within seconds and had me at this amazing website where I found all of the most stunning, high quality (and affordable!) clocks I could ever hope to find in a retail outlet – and then some! Everything from grandfather clocks and mantel clocks to wall clocks and atomic clocks were on this one site and easy to browse by style, price, or manufacturer.
In found the wall clock I was looking for and it only took minutes. Within a few days it was delivered to my door and every time I look at it I am reminded of the luxuries I am privileged to have access to online.

Bulova is one of the most known clock producing companies in the United States. The company dates back all the way to 1875 when it was created by an immigrant from Bohemia. Bohemia is an European region found in Central Europe, a place known for its world famous cuckoo and
wall clocks. So it is no wonder that it produces some of the most beautiful watches you can buy nowadays.Of course many have changed since the 19th century (and Bulova itself has introduced and patented many innovations in the industry of clock making), but you can buy a clock that still has the antique aspect, full of modern technology and mechanisms. Bulova sells both modern clocks and watches and wall clocks that are built to look as old ones. Bulova wall clocks usually have pendulums, either encased behind a glass panel or hanging under the clock itself, so you will enjoy the beauty and refinement of
pendulum clocks in your own living room. However, the mechanisms are up to today’s standards (in fact Bulova clocks are considered among the best built and most accurate clocks in the business).
If you are looking for a new decoration of your living room and in the same time you are looking for something unique and spectacular, you should consider a wall clock. No matter what kind of furniture you decorate your room with, it will sorely not be complete without a fine wall clock. Bulova launches new collections quite often and all of them are masterfully handcrafted to ensure you the best finishing quality you can find. Bulova manufactures its wall clocks in Canada and every clock is custom built, so the clients can freely choose from a large variation of wood finishes, movement and color options.
You can find almost anything you may want in the Bulova collection of wall clocks and you can select from a large collection of wall clocks of all sizes and shapes. You can choose a modern looking wall clock, or you can purchase one that looks identically as it was built three hundred years ago. Bulova wall clocks come both in the classing gong time announcement or you can buy a melody Bulova wall clock (announcing the time from half hour to half hour using a melody).
The wall clocks offer exquisite details from top to bottom and you can buy decorated items (with splendidly carved motifs - leaves, nature motifs) or simple exteriors. The clock dials have a classic aspect (most of them are classic white) and the numerals are either Roman or Arabic, beautifully and finely painted.
Being so exquisite, the prices can be a bit high, but for your money you will receive a beautifully hand made clock, with very reliable mechanisms and which will change the aspect of your living room forever. You can buy Bulova wall clocks from a long list of online stores or from the local clock store. No matter where you buy them, you will surely enjoy your purchase.

Today’s consuming public is used to a high level of convenience, afforded to them by the Internet. The conventional meaning for “legwork” – referring to the effort and research that shoppers would traditionally put into finding the perfect product is now work that is done on a virtual – rather than physical – level. Shopping has become something that is done from a work or home computer; with the click of a few keys consumers can compare and contrast similar products in terms of quality, performance, and price. Even products for which consumers may not expect to be able to shop online are readily available; such as clocks.
Clocks are something to which people rarely give much thought – until they are in the market to buy one. Hanging from our walls, sitting atop our mantels, standing in the corners of our rooms, or perching on the edge of a bedroom nightstand, clocks are something that we take for granted in terms of their functionality. But shopping for clocks becomes more than just finding a functional clock – it becomes about finding a clock that works with the overall design of the home; something that can be accomplished online.

If we can’t get creative in our own homes, where can we get creative? After all, this is the one place in the world where we have creative license to do whatever we want to do and no one is going to judge us for it. Those who enjoy bolder colors are given the go-ahead to put reds, yellows, and other eye-popping colors in areas throughout their home and those who prefer a particular decorating style in terms of furniture and other accessories are able to see those plans play out in their home. It’s a blank palette and it’s ours for the taking!
Clocks have always been those pieces that helped to move our decorative plan along and make it something truly special. There are a variety of ways in which to use clocks and most of us are looking for creative ideas for making the clocks in our home come to life in a way that allows us to infuse our own personality and see our vision realized.
To this end, clocks can be used in a variety of ways including:
* Clocks shouldn’t be used in overabundance in the bedroom, but you don’t have to necessarily use those atomic clocks with flashing digital numbers either. Consider an antique styled clock on a nightstand or a mantel clock on a dresser or occasional table.
* Hang a wall clock in an area of the home where it is a focal point rather than just an accessory. Wall clocks are especially dramatic in areas such as dining rooms and even in a downstairs formal powder room!
* Don’t forget the kitchen. The kitchen is often one of the most overlooked rooms in the home in terms of décor. Just because we cook in this room doesn’t mean it can’t be decorated fabulously. Consider a wall clock or a mantel clock in this room to give it some creative spark!

There are a great many products on the market today that do a good job combining form and function – although for many people form wins out any day. This preference of form over function stems from a society that is focused almost exclusively on looks. But there are those rare items that can offer both – a beautiful product that is also effective. Clocks are very often these types of products, as they both perform a function – the accurate telling of time, and can also foster a design theme within a home.
Clocks – such as those found through 1-800-4CLOCKS – can do more than provide an accurate way to tell time within a home; modern clocks are made in a variety of styles and with a variety of materials – all of which converge to create a clock that will hold up well in a contemporary designed home, add inspiration to a French country home, or look at home among a roomful of antiques.
The important thing to remember for clock consumers today is that there is something for everyone in today’s marketplace. Some of the top manufacturers – such as Howard Miller clocks, Kieninger clocks, and Ridgeway clocks are all committed to providing consumers with modern variations on a classic theme.
Visitors to 1-800-4CLOCKS will find any type of clock they desire – mantel clocks, wall clocks, even grandfather and grandmother clocks – that can add depth of design to any room and help pull a home together into a cohesive style. While it’s true that clocks have a function, this does not in any way mean that consumers must sacrifice style.

For homeowners attempting to make the most of their home’s décor, they understand that the power is in the details. By accomplishing just a few goals homeowners can create powerful visual impact in any room in their home – through the use of color, texture, and deliberate placement of furniture and decorative items. Wall space is one area that tends to overwhelm homeowners, as it can seem like a very large space where the options are endless but the wrong choice can have disastrous consequences. Many people on the search for an appropriate focal point for their walls turn to wall clocks to help infuse a room with style and provide a functional element to the room as well.
Wall clocks may have traditionally been thought of as a bit of an afterthought; a decorative element that didn’t carry much weight on its own. But today, modern wall clocks have all the functionality and style to pull a room together and stand on their own; even if standing means hanging on the wall.
Wall clocks were once the affordable way to bring the elegance of clocks into the home; miniature versions of the stately grandfather clock that was largely unaffordable. Wall clocks are now one of the many manifestations of timekeeping available through high-end suppliers such as 1-800-4CLOCKS. There, consumers are able to choose from wall clocks of many different varieties – modern and sleek, traditional and ornate, antique and distressed; the choices are endless and only dependent on the personal needs of the customer.

Looking for
Novelty Wall ClocksWhen you think about novelty gifts, chances are that loud, tacky items, like singing fish, or crude jokes come to mind. However, that’s not all there is to the world of novelty gift giving. There are plenty of fun ideas out there that won’t annoy the recipient.
Novelty clocks are one place that you can show some humor, while still giving a gift that’s got some use. Styles are available on the market to suit any taste, but here are a few suggestions.
Clocks in Disguise
One major category of novelty clocks is the type that seems like an ordinary clock, until you take a closer look. Barbershop clocks (with backwards numbers), upside down clocks, and 24 hour clocks are a few of this type.
A little more obvious, but still unobtrusive are the “all 5’s” clock (it’s always time to go home), the “I don’t do mornings” clock (with some of the numbers missing), and the “I don’t care” clock (numbers jumbled at the bottom). One great thing about all novelty clocks is that no matter what’s on the clock face, they’ll still keep accurate time. That means that they’re useful as well as being amusing.
Character Clocks
Clocks shaped like your favorite cartoon character or like animals have been around for a long time. There’s the classic cat clock, Mickey Mouse, and plenty of others to choose from. However, if you’re looking for an unusual novelty gift for a friend, don’t rule these out just because you’ve seen them before.
There are now clocks available featuring characters that weren’t around a few years ago, such as Japanese anime-themed items. Take a look around to see what kind of novelty character clocks you can find. Just a few of the offerings include dog and cat clocks, roosters, mythological clocks, and may more.
Nostalgic Clocks
There are also novelty clocks geared towards a retro look and feel. You can now buy new versions of the old Coca Cola ad clocks, diner-type clocks, and models with turn of the century art on the faces. No matter what era you or your gift’s recipient are interested in, there’s probably a cute novelty clock to help evoke your nostalgia.

For most of us, when we go to work we go there for a specific purpose – to do our jobs to the best of our ability and then go home as soon as possible. But for another large portion of the population work is home on a number of levels; they may spend as much time in their office as they do at home. This is especially true for business owners that are spending a large portion of their time either trying to get a new business off the ground or continuing to foster the success of an existing business. Either way, for anyone who spends a significant amount of time at work, there is no reason for an office to be a blank, utilitarian space that says nothing about the person who works there. With the addition of a few elements – family photos, plants, and a beautiful clock – an office can be transformed as a welcoming and comfortable space.
Clocks are all over offices for a number of reasons. For one, it is important for employees and visitors to be able to tell the time at a glance. For another, clocks are an affordable way to lend an air of sophistication to a lobby area, meeting room, and the like. Wall clocks are especially popular in offices – although they tend to be the plainer, round faced versions.
But individual employees or business owners – simply by including a mantel clock on their desk that best reflects their style – contemporary, traditional, etc. – can make their office their own.

The spring is just about on the horizon – waiting to replace the winter’s chilling winds and bare trees with warmer breezes and new buds. As humans we have many rituals associated with the coming of the spring season; emerging from our winter cocoon and airing out our homes for the arrival of the warmer months. Spring cleaning is one of our many traditions associated with the leaving of winter and the coming of spring. We pull apart our rooms, rotate wardrobes, clean curtains, dust baseboards, move furniture, and basically deep clean our personal space. In the midst of all this attention to detail we are sure to notice the clocks in our home – those that sit on mantels, stand in corners, or alert us to the time from our bedroom nightstands.
Clocks deserve a little spring cleaning of their own in the way of a gentle dusting and a wipe down of the exterior. After all, they’ve been gathering dust for some time now and the accumulation of dust can have an impact on the time telling capabilities of a clock. This spring, when you’re going over the rest of your home with a fine toothed comb be sure to turn your attention to your clocks by:
* Moving mantel clocks to dust under and around them. Use a soft cloth to gently wipe the face of the glass face of the clock and along the sides. If the glass face opens you can go ahead and gently dust inside the face of the clock taking care not to touch the actual hands of the clock.
* Gently removing wall clocks from their spot in order to perform the same gentle cleaning.
* Dusting the outside of grandfather clocks or grandmother clocks. Any additional service should be done by a professional in order to preserve the integrity of the clocks.
